It’s mindblowing to consider that Debbie Harry, the lead singer for the New Wave band Blondie, turns 81 on July 1. She was the female pop singer who personified the 1980s for me. There was something about her emotionally detached, blank affect that I found incredibly charismatic. And such a great voice, too. On this summer Sunday afternoon before her birthday, it seems like the perfect time to listen to Sunday Girl, one of my favorite songs.
