American film director CECIL B. DEMILLE (1881-1959) was born on August 12.

"I win my awards at the box office."

Long before he made the Charlton Heston 10 COMMANDMENTS, DeMille directed a silent version in 1923 with a cast of thousands. It looks like it was filmed in Egypt, but all the sets were built in the California desert. In fact, in 2017, archaeologists in California unearthed the giant Sphinx head from the production. Forget CGI, DeMille did it old school!!
