Groucho’s quick wit, painted mustache, and ever-present cigar made him one of the most recognizable entertainers of the twentieth century. As the verbal ringleader of the Marx Brothers, he starred in classic films such as Duck Soup and A Night at the Opera, delivering rapid-fire jokes, which were often at the expense of stately matron Margaret Dumont. He later reached a new audience as the host of the television quiz show You Bet Your Life.
