June 15 is the birthday of artist SAUL STEINBERG (1914-1999)
"I am among the few who continue to draw after childhood is ended, continuing and perfecting childhood drawing - without the traditional interruption of academic training."
Saul Steinberg was a long-time cartoonist for The New Yorker, but "cartoonist" doesn't seem to do his brilliant art justice. Born in Romania, he originally trained as an architect in Milan before fleeing the rise of Fascism. For over six decades, he was an illustrator with The New Yorker, where he created nearly 90 covers and over 1,200 drawings.
