While some of Mariotto Albertinelli’s paintings have been characterized as conservative in style, others exemplify the monumental classicism of the High Renaissance. According to Giorgio Vasari, Albertinelli enjoyed a worldly lifestyle and was known for his fondness for good food, drink, and female company. His wife, Antonia, whom he married in 1506, helped settle some of his outstanding obligations after his death.
