On this episode of The KC Arts Beat Report, artistic director Bruce Sorrell previews Autumn Glow, the opening concert of the Kansas City Chamber Orchestra’s 40th anniversary season and the beginning of his final season leading the ensemble he founded in 1987.
The program features Pēteris Vasks’ meditative Lonely Angel with violinist Anne-Marie Brown, Jean Belmont Ford’s moving Remembrance for soprano and strings featuring Alyssa Nance, and Tchaikovsky’s beloved Serenade for Strings. Sorrell reflects on the orchestra’s four-decade history, the artistic influences that shaped his conducting career, and the community that has supported the organization throughout its remarkable journey.
Autumn Glow begins at 7:30 p.m. on Oct. 20 at Grace and Holy Trinity Cathedral. Bruce Sorrell will present a pre-concert talk at 6:30 p.m.
