MAGINEL WRIGHT ENRIGHT (June 19, 1881)
June 19 is the birthday of American children's book illustrator MAGINEL WRIGHT ENRIGHT (1881-1966).
Enright, the younger sister of Frank Lloyd Wright, illustrated 63 children's books, including several by L. Frank Baum, like "Policeman Blue Jay," which Baum wrote under the pseudonym Laura Bancroft and which promoted "kindness to animals rather than cruelty."
"Baum wrote a preface to Policeman Bluejay that expressed this goal unambiguously; he noted that along with the 'amusement' the story provides, he hoped it would inspire 'a little tenderness for the helpless animals and birds' his young readers encountered in their lives." (Wikipedia)
