Schiele "was an Austrian Expressionist painter. His work is noted for its intensity and its raw sexuality, and for the many self-portraits the artist produced, including nude self-portraits. The twisted body shapes and the expressive line that characterize Schiele's paintings and drawings mark the artist as an early exponent of Expressionism. Gustav Klimt, a figurative painter of the early 20th century, was a mentor to Schiele." (Wikipedia)

WEEGEE née Arthur Usher Fellig (1899

June 12 is the birthday of American photographer WEEGEE née Arthur Usher Fellig (1899-1968).

"Murder is my business."

Fellig (Weegee) "had a reputation for getting to crime scenes before the cops. Finding him standing over a dead body, camera raised to get a shot, they'd say he must have used an Ouija board to know where to go. And so they nicknamed him 'Weegee.' He liked that and began stamping his photographs 'Credit Photo by Weegee the Famous.'" — Steve Meltzer

"Weegee worked in Manhattan's Lower East Side as a press photographer during the 1930s and 1940s and developed his signature style by following the city's emergency services and documenting their activity. Much of his work depicted unflinchingly realistic scenes of urban life, crime, injury and death. Weegee published photographic books and also worked in cinema, initially making his own short films and later collaborating with film directors such as Jack Donohue and Stanley Kubrick." (Wikipedia)

Corea "was an American jazz pianist, composer, bandleader and occasional percussionist. His compositions 'Spain,' '500 Miles High,' 'La Fiesta,' 'Armando's Rhumba' and 'Windows' are widely considered jazz standards. As a member of Miles Davis's band in the late 1960s, he participated in the birth of jazz fusion. In the 1970s he formed Return to Forever. Along with McCoy Tyner, Herbie Hancock and Keith Jarrett, Corea is considered to have been one of the foremost pianists of the post-John Coltrane era." (Wikipedia)
